SEBRING -- The New Year didn't start out so well for a pair of men in their early 20's, with one sent to the hospital and the other to jail.

Battery leads to felony drug charge

LAKE PLACID -- A battery case ended with additional charges on Thursday, including second degree felony cocaine possession.

Antonio Sanchez, 24, who was eventually found with "a strong odor of a alcoholic beverage on his breath," hit a woman and then set her clothing on fire, according to a report by Eddie San Miguel of the Lake Placid Police Department.

Thefts not uncommon in Highlands Homes subdivision

SEBRING -- Residents of the Highlands Homes subdivision welcomed the new year only to wake up with a missing car stereo and other items from their vehicles.

Due to jurisdiction lines the Sebring Police Department and the Highlands County Sheriff's Office were both in the area in response to theft complaints, said SPD Sgt. Greg Barlaug.

The district match became quite physical at least in the eyes of the officials. Four yellow cards were issued. Octavio Galvan was given two for the Streaks.
